Throttle body cleaner or Brake cleaner?

So I made a post yesterday about some throttle issues, I now need to clean the throttle body and I already have brake cleaner with me here, if I need throttle cleaner I will need to go out and buy it.

I understand that there are minimal differences be…

For the throttle body I wouldn’t recommend Brake cleaner. Carb/throttle cleaner has oils in it to “lubricate” whatever it’s sprayed onto. This is good for the moving parts on the throttle body.
For the Mass air flow sensor: I would get spray cleaner just for that. It is a calibrated sensor which the wrong chemicals can interfere with proper functioning.

I would also suggest pulling the parts off of the car before you clean them. Any debris or cleaner you get into your engine can mess things up.

Throttle Body cleaner cleans both throttle body parts and internal components as injectors and valves. Also it will leave a thin layer of lubricant.
Brake cleaner evaporates after a couple of seconds just leaving the body clean.

I have used throttle body cleaner alot on my mother’s Mitsubishi GDI engine it’s really worth it.

If you have a straw full of holes in the sides like the one as mine above just spray while it’s on place, there is no need to remove it from the manifold if you don’t really want to.
Just let it sit for a couple minutes and then start the engine.
If you want to you can also spray when the engine is on, have someone in the car controlling the throttle.

I personally cleaned my throttle with a windshield washer fluid and it worked all fine.
