If you could take any normal car, preferably one that never had a 'hot' version, and then turn it into a hotter sport model of itself, what would you pick and what would you do to it?
This might seem odd, and I might get criticized… The Chevrolet Aveo. Bear with me, as this seems stupid at first. I currently drive an ‘05 Aveo, and even though it sucks there is a lot to learn from it. Chevy did a good job at making it seem a bit sporty right off the bat. Carbon Fibre trim, two tone cloth seats that have a bit of bolstering, and very low weight. The problem is build quality and power. Here in America, the 1.6L four makes 93 Horsepower. It’s not a lot, but with the low weight it isn’t terrible. The car has no ABS, no traction or stability control, and a cable throttle, not electric. The car, even for being a POS, is very in tune with the driver. It teaches you a lot about car control and throttle management, especially in the winter.
So what would I do to it? Chevy’s L61 N/A 4 cyl. from the Cobalt — 145HP. Wider Tires. Lower and stiffer suspension with a stiffer rear swaybar to reduce the Aveo’s terrible tail-wag. Manual transmission. Mild ground effects. Bigger bolsters on the seats. Stronger brakes, disk rears instead of drums. Less restricted exhaust and intake. 16” wheels.
In the end, you have a small, practical, fun, and cheap car to toy around with. It would have around 150HP, and be around 2200lbs.
Nissan Qashqai, the car I learned driving in. I would basically give it a Nismo trim, lower it, give it some agressive skirts with red accents and sport leather seats. Would be crazy to throw the GT-R’s engine in it as well. :D
Wagon r. Stick some CT stickers for additional 500 bhp and some flames livery.
Dodge Neon! Because why not??
My toyota corolla, Swap the 1.8 for a nice 5.7 toyota V8
I would totally go for a nissan micra k11. there is just no prettier small car at that age and price (sub 500€). with it cute and some kind of girly look it is the most ignored car I can imagine. put the 1.0l with 60hp out, and fit something around the 100s or 120s hp in it. stiffer the suspension and go for some small but wide rims in the front and rear. It would be a very fun car for easily under 2k. I don’t always dream, but when I do, it’s about the k11 micra
Would Pick an Audi 100 C1 and -Front & Rear Flares -Full Roll Cage -1JZ -80mm Turbo -NAWS -Custom Coilovers & 14” BBS Rims
passat cc R. Sexy as hell and deserved a hot version
I always thought it would be interesting if Toyota made a T Sport version of the Avensis below. Much like they did with the Celica, they could have used the same VVTL-i technology, which with the 1AZ-FSE could have gotten near enough to 200bhp. Also, the Avensis did use the multi-link suspension used in the Celica (correct me if I’m wrong) which could have been fine tuned for sportiness, and they could have done something about that naff steering as well. Would I bother making a T Sport version now though? Not really
ford ka, a lighter turbo version of that would be like the fiat 500 abarth, little pocket rocket
