Norway Wants To Ban The Sale Of All New Petrol And Diesel Cars By 2025

“That’s a bit drastic,” some of you probably thought, when it was announced that the city of Paris was to ban all cars built before 2010 from its centre by 2020. However, that all seems pretty minor in comparison to what the Norwegian government is cooking up. According to Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv, the country’s government is considering banning the sale of any new petrol or diesel powered car by 2025.
Almost a quarter of all new car sales in Norway are made up of electric vehicles, but to forcibly bring that up to 100 per cent would be an extraordinary move, and an interesting one given that the country’s economy relies heavily on the exportation of oil. It won’t just be diesel and petrol cars getting the boot, either: the plans also cover light commercial vehicles and busses.
Just heard that Norway will ban new sales of fuel cars in 2025. What an amazingly awesome country. You guys rock!!pic.twitter.com/uAXuBkDYuR;— elonmusk
It’s important to note this isn’t definite just yet; while the proposed law has been put forward, it hasn’t yet been passed. We’ll be watching this with interest.
What do you think of the proposals? We’re keen to hear your views, particularly if you’re a Norwegian petrolhead!

As a Norwegian petrolhead, i will not be happy to drive a car that runs on the same energy as a vibrator!!!
If only people could stop trying to kill petrolheads..
@CarThrottle Norway don’t want ban the sale, but #arbeiderpartiet #jonasgahrstore wants too. -_-
Norway is responsible for 0,3% of worldwide CO2 emissions. 10,2% of those 0,3% is from road traffic. Sounds like this is gonna make quite the impact, definitively saving the world! :) No wonder everyone thinks we are self centered idiots in Norway, it’s because we are!
I’m hoping that this will never happen. If it’s about emissions, I know that the process of making batteries is not something that someone would call “clean”. “Toxic” is the softest word that comes to mind when I hear about a battery factory. And around 80% of all electricity is made from fossil fuels. Electricity makes more pollution than cars, so let’s ban electricity? Cows make more damage to the environment than cars, so let’s ban cows? I just don’t get it. Why does everyone hate the car so much?
Hydrogen cars anyone? I can’t wait for the day when we finally get hydrogen powered coupes. Just imagine that. All the power of a petrol engine with none of the drawbacks associated with a petrol engine
Well, time to watch their profit made from toursim dips to record low.
