This Bonkers 265.6mph Run Made The Hennessey Venom GT Spyder The World's Fastest Convertible

Texan tuning house Hennessey sent its Venom GT Spyder down a runway at Naval Air Station Lemoore, setting a convertible top speed record in the process

Like the 270.49mph set by the tin top version of the Venom a few years ago, we’re guessing this isn’t going to be an ‘official’ record recognised by Guinness at any point. In the case of that 270mph effort, it wasn’t recognised by the organisation as there was only one run (for an official record it would need an average taken from two runs), and not enough Venoms had been built to classify it as a proper production car.

Still, 265.6mph is massively impressive for a car with no roof, and is 11mph higher than the top whack managed by the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. To get it to that speed, the GT Spyder’s 7.0-litre LSX V8 is turned up to an unholy 1451hp, with 1287lb ft of torque on offer. It’s able to hit 200mph in a face-bending 13 seconds.
